Daniel and I pay $850 a month for our health insurance, that is more than our rent! And we are the lucky ones to even have healthcare, so many people in this country don't. We were forced to bring healthcare to Dannex in order for me to be covered because I wouldn't be accepted otherwise. It is just ridiculous how hard it is to be accepted to an individual plan...I mean I am a perfectly healthy young person, but because I had diarrhea 10 years ago or something equally trivial I was denied coverage. I give my husband props for making it enough of a priority that he was willing to find a way to get me insured, but come on between the costs of gas and healthcare we are going to end up without money for food. Daniel is a passionate republican in every sense of the word and supports a capitalistic society where we decide where our money goes instead of the government taxing us and using that money on government sponsored programs and agendas. I agree with the principle of agency and freedom and preserving that, but at the same time, in lieu of the healthcare crisis, in some ways support a form of socialist medicine. I mean our basic rights that government is sopposed to protect are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and if you are in bad health then all three of these basic rights are in jeopardy. Ultimately, I wish our society was righteous enough that the rich would decide to take care of the poor and help them have some of these basic needs met without government having to step in, but lets get real we live in the last days where peoples hearts have grown cold and selfishness, pride, and greed abound. After debating with Daniel about the issue and feeling a little confused about how the law of agency and the commandment to love your neighbor and be your brothers keeper could coexist in this instance, I remembered that I had checked out a movie from the library this week called "Mister Smith Goes to Washington" with Jimmy Stewart as the lead actor. This movie cleared up the issue for me and renewed my faith in the basic principles our country was built on. Daniel and I highly recommend it as it is now one of our new favorite flicks.
