This was taken this weekend when Dan and I went surfing with some friends from our ward, I think his expression reflects the ardent effort, with an element of fun, with which Dan approaches anything he does in the ocean--the ocean is his "element". We had an unusually large swell this weekend, the waves were 5-6 feet high at La Jolla Shores which is usually 1-2 feet, and the water was 74 degrees--ideal surfing conditions! (not ideal conditions for finding a parking spot at the beach though).
